Salusbury World 'Community Food Hub'
Our brilliant local refugee support group, Salusbury World, has kindly been given permission by Salusbury Primary School for volunteers to use the school site to prepare food parcel gifts for vulnerable people and families.
Salusbury World works across the area and will also be helping with the Thursday parcels being prepared at the Maqam Centre on Wrentham Ave.
You do not have to be a refugee or listed with the Council to receive one of these gifts.
The idea is to support people and families in increasing need, without the need to ask anyone questions about their circumstances.
These gifts can be collected from the school (Mondays) or the Maqam (Thursdays) or we can arrange deiivery by DBS-checked Salusbury World volunteers, led by Lucy Elgood, supported by local Residents' Associations, and the 'mutual aid' groups for Queens Park, Kensal Green and Brondesbury.
The contents will typically be date and ingredient-labelled meals (e.g. vegetable curries made that same day), fruit and vegetables plus more items, depending on donations made by local residents on the day and by the Queens Park Farmers' Market on Sunday,
One young teenager last week baked cookies and included personal notes for the parcels :-)
This is not a more comprehensive "Foodbank Service" which you can apply for from Brent Council, Sufra NW London, Brent Foodbank or North Paddington - see details here.
RECEIVING A GIFT
The gifts will be delivered to neighbours who have already approached the 'mutual aid' network in Queens Park, Brondesbury or Kensal Green. Or are known to Salusbury World and other local residents and charities, such as Elders Voice.
If you would like more information about one of these parcels or would like to
You can also receive items from other food services in the area such as the very popular Granville Community Kitchen in Carlton Vale, which is open on Weds and Fridays.
DONATING A GIFT
This could be something homemade which is baked, for which we would need you to label the ingredients and the day it was made.
Or we accept bought items which you know a person or family would like, including from these supportive local businesses.
Make your donation worth 25% more, at no extra cost to you?
Or, if you prefer, you can support us by sponsoring a food parcel by donating here, via Salusbury World: www.justgiving.com/campaign/GiftYourNeighbour. If you are a UK tax payer your donation will increase by 25% if you tick the Gift Aid box
HELPING A FOODBANK AS WELL?
We are also happy at Salusbury School or the Maqam to also be a drop-off point for donations to be onward delivered to any local foodbank.
For a list of essential items, please see below (via Sufra NW London).
